Welcome

Thank you for visiting my video blog. My name is Dave Alegre, the artist behind most of the videos you see here. Seventeen years ago I taped and edited my first project and it has been twelve years since I taped my first official wedding. It has been a challenging and exciting journey for my family and me. This career has allowed me to create countless memories for people around the world. It has allowed me to travel to destinations from Hawaii, the Bahamas, Aruba and as far as Italy, but most of all it has allowed me to meet my beautiful wife, Grace.

What is the purpose of my video blog? I’m a storyteller at heart, but rather than writing, I like to use images—combining movement and audio. Here I will post current and past projects that showcase you – my family, friends and clients. For my videos that date back as far as the early 90’s, I never had the opportunity to do this because the technology never existed. Today I can, I may even post my own experimental home videos that I learned from – depending on how embarassing they might be! You’ll be able to watch the progression of quality and creativity in my craft. My hope is that this blog will keep you entertained. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. If that’s the case, then a video is worth a billion!

If you like what you see and feel when you watch these videos, then hire us. We are available to travel anywhere around the world for your hometown or destination wedding.

Most videos will be posted at their fullest length, if you want to watch short samples, view my trailers on our website link at the top of this blog. Enjoy!

“Edit that?” That is what the bridesmaids kept asking me to do and I did! What a challenging highlights and so worth it. The whole bridal party was a blast to film and this is why I love my career. Thanks Rosalie & Philip for allowing me to be creative.

Favorite parts?
*Editing to the beat during the bridal procession.
*Second, the different color & skin tones (blue) I came up with during color correction process but I’m still experimenting and learning. I like what I see but I will perfect it on the next one.

Allison & Joshua’s Pre-Wedding Coverage Part 1

My take on this video? “Scenes are out of order, but in complete order.” As an editor, my goal is to keep you guessing with this one.

Flashback of one of my favorite edits and wedding. (2008)

For me, Sophia & Keseckias was one of the first interviews I did in 2008. I felt like Barbara Walters or Oprah doing the interview. This project was a big learning experience. Again as a visual artist I’m not a big fan of just cinematically fliming a wedding. If that was my only purpose then call me a videographer who edits with great music. Really one of my main purpose is capture pockets of stories that happen throughout the day. Weather funny or sad the stories create a bigger story and colorful feel of whom I’m filming. If was unable to do that, just call it a pretty wedding video. :o)

Note: In postproduction I didn’t focus my time on color matching the cameras but more on the stories and pacing which comes first.

Sara & Eric’s Pre-Wedding Coverage (Reality Show Style)

Storytelling is superior to visuals. As an editor and shooter, you are what you watch. My inspiration for this video comes from watching hours of reality shows (to my wife’s chagrin). My favorite shows to study are Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, American Chopper and Jersey Shore. Real or not, all of these shows have a storyline. Have you also noticed that none of these shows are shot on HDSLRs? Not to knock HDSLRs; I own two of them. But this video would have been difficult to shoot and edit because of the limitations of HDSLRs regarding audio. I love Sara and Eric’s wedding video because of the storytelling. They were terrific on camera because their wedding banter was so cute. As a producer I look forward to improving my storytelling arc and I hope one day to take wedding videography to another level. Thanks Sara & Eric!

Thanks Sonya Paclob sonyapaclob.com for assisting me on this long hard edit.

Arlene & Raymond “Our Beginning”

Where did this video idea come from? Arlene and Raymond didn’t have any idea what they wanted to create. Usually my clients don’t and we end up just shooting random artistic shots on the beach, park, city, etc… So to take this video into a different direction I asked them four simple questions. How did you meet? What are your pet peeves about each other? What do you like to do during a date and what are your hobbies? The answers were, they first met at Starbucks and love to go to the movies. Raymond pet peeve about Arlene is that her feet gets cold easy and likes to put on socks during a movie. Arlene pet peeve about Raymond is that she is amazed how fast he eats which is probably a habit from being in the military. Raymond also loves to play basketball and Arlene loves to dress up. With these few answers I knew what to create for them, a cute video with a beginning middle and end that tells a semi story about who they are.

One of my favorites! I really enjoyed filming Julie and Marc and most all editing their wedding.

My most favorite scene? Julie’s mom ironing. It’s not the most artistic shot, it is what she said. Reminds me of my mom. :)

Now I can’t wait to shoot the next wedding with my new DSLRs.

Camera used - FX-1000

Technical note for other videographers: Reception had blue gel lights in the ceilings. Not sure how to color balance for that.

Cute couple! Mariti was such a ham and great in front of the camera. Dianne was such kind person. I can see why they are in love.

Thanks for allowing me to spend time with you and direct you with this small idea.

Congratulations!!

*Mei & Ryan was such a great couple to work with!

*Still need to adjust color grade to match.

*I think dialog is more important than visuals. When shooting weddings, creative cinematic shots are very important. But whats being said is more important. For me, paying attention to phrases and thoughts comes first before visuals. You won’t see me without my headsets on a shoot when listening to a wedding. :)
