Mei & Ryan’s Pre-Wedding

Mei & Ryan’s Pre-Wedding Shoot from Visionary Productions on Vimeo.

*Mei & Ryan was such a great couple to work with!

*Still need to adjust color grade to match.

*I think dialog is more important than visuals. When shooting weddings, creative cinematic shots are very important. But whats being said is more important. Without dialog you can’t really tell or feel what’s going on. Really you can’t tell a story without it. The difference between a photograph and video is sound and movement. For me, paying attention to phrases and thoughts comes first before visuals. You won’t see me without my headsets on a shoot when listening to a wedding. :)

*I montaged the sermon with the pre-coverage to compress time. It allowed me to edit into their vows after the pre-ceremony.

Janice & Randy’s Short Same Day Edit (High Definition)

Janice & Randy’s Short Same Day Edit from Visionary Productions on Vimeo.

*If you are having problems playing, turn off HD or push play then pause and wait for bar to buffer through.

*This video segment was edited at the end of Janice and Randy Espanol’s photomontage. Completed under pressure and shown at reception.

*I keep telling myself that I won’t do same day edits ever again, but can’t seem to stay away from the WOW factor. It was worth it…. :)

*Note: I used gaffers tape to hold the shoes to the wall and blasted my light behind it! I also placed the flowers as added foreground.

*I also couldn’t find a good location to shoot the dress in the hotel room. Most of the time luggage, people, wedding party, food and bags are in the way during the chaos. So I asked permission from the bride to shoot it outside in the hallway near the elevators. I think next time I will shoot it inside the elevator!

*Usually groomsmen are more relaxed than the bride. So in conjunction to the normal walking around putting on our tux scene. I asked if we can do some sort of chaotic scene. I had groomsmen run to their cars as if they were really late or something.

*Not sure where the video artifacts are coming from. Might have to adjust my video compression next time.

Jhena & Adam’s Same Day Edit Video Presentation During The Reception (HD)

Another successful same-day edit! I would say that creating a same-day edit would be the most difficult situation for any wedding videographer. After the wedding, I only had a few hours to edit the wedding footage for Jhena and Adam’s hundreds of waiting guests to see. No room for error or equipment failure in this situation! With proper planning, reliable equipment and experience we pulled it off…again. I want to thank Maynard Espanol (second camera assistant), Sonya Paclob (video/technical assistant) and most of all my wife, Grace, and our kids for putting up with my grouchy ways before a big presentation. I would also like to thank Grace for the most perfect projection set up, too. I wouldn’t have been able to complete this task without all of your help. Last, but not least, I’d like to thank Jhena & Adam for choosing us and for being such video hams for their little video presentation. Congratulations on your new life together and enjoy showing this to your future kids!

Priscilla & Ernesto’s Wedding Highlights (HD)

Let me ask this question, what is the definition of a video sound bite? So this is what I found when I looked it up. In film and broadcasting, a sound bite is a very short piece of a speech edited from a longer speech or an interview. Sound bites stand out better in the audience’s memory and thus become the “taste” that best represents the entire “meal” of the larger message or conversation. Sound bites are a natural consequence of people placing ever-greater emphasis on summarizing ever-increasing amounts of information in their lives.

So it was my mission to find a few sound bites and ambient sounds for Priscilla & Ernesto’s wedding highlights. It took a good 18 hours to just edit this short piece. But I enjoyed experimenting with the original video dialog. I feel it is more powerful than just hearing the music alone. I still think I need more improvement with this editing style. Hopefully, my videos will keep evolving until I can reach that point of excellence.

This wedding had the perfect couple, lighting and Ernesto had the coolest suit (Barong). As far as Priscilla, she was funny, too.
Enjoy and watch the memories!

A bride and groom with class! I get butterflies in my stomach just watching.

April & Lawrence “Love on the Boardwalk” (HD 16:9)

What happens when you have these three ingredients? A simple idea, a fun couple and videographer with a crazy (and sometimes crude) imagination. Surprisingly the answer is a cute video. A few months ago, April and Lawrence emailed me with this simple script for a video presentation they wanted to show at their wedding reception. The video idea was just to have a romantic picnic on the beach while Lawrence proposed. I said, “Is that it?” So I said, “ Let’s take it to another level—let’s add some conflict and a little bit of humor to this idea.” But first I had to ask if their guests would be offended with this type of humor. I just had this gut instinct that Lawrence was a ham and this “think-outside-of-the-box” idea would work well. They knew their guests would enjoy it so they gave me the green light to direct and develop the story. So the video ended up rated G and the rest is history.
